I cried...
I cried in front of most of the children and staff at work today. They were happy tears. I was very impressed and couldn't help crying.
I have been working on alphabet with the children in my group during my group time at my daycare since end of April. One boy who is the youngest child in my group and is 3 years and 4 months old, spelled his name loud smoothly, without stopping or any hesitation in front of other children. He seemed natural and nothing surprising, and went back to his spot after he finished.
But, it was surprising to me and other staff. He had been saying "G" or "J" about "K". He didn't know another letter. We knew that he was getting better and better very quickly, but he still needed some help...
It was only a few minutes or so while he spelled his name loud and went back to his spot. I didn't know what had happend for a while. I couldn't help crying when I recognized what had just happened in front of me.
I am very proud of him. He is very bright. He helps my activity goes smoothly. Whenever I throw some questions to the children in my grouop, he is the one who understands what I am thinking and gives me back the answer which I want and expect most of the time.
I was still feeling crying when I remembered about this even after I got home.
I was glad that I had been trying to do that every day. If you give children right amount of right kind of stimulation at right time, they show us unbeleivable and amazing abilities, possibilities and progress. Their potential is limitless.
These experiences make me think that I made a right decision. I like this job. I like what I'm doing. It gives me such great moments which I would rarely get if I had chosen to work in different fields.
You have been working very hard. I can see your efforts and progress. You are fantastic. Thank you, Mr. K!!

MCCA (Manitoba Child Care Association) 30th Annual Provincial ECE Conference
I attended this conference and took a workshop called "10 ways to build & display confidence". Key points were Image, Attitude, Behaviour and Communication.The following are the 10 ways;
- Creditability/Productivity... The first priority is business
- 4 Es philosophy... Everyone, Every situation, Exactly the same consideration, Everytime
- Positive First Impression... Your image (physical appearance) helps your communication get respect. Each distraction creates a 30 second delay. Be approachable. Be proud of who you are.
- Positive Focus... Celebrate success, talk to yourself
- Nonverbal Communication... Posture is a significant indicator. Stand tall and proud.
- Word Choice... "I know" is better than "I think". "I apologize..." is better than "Sorry".
Shouldn't use words such as; "should", "could", "but", "if", "maybe", "can't", "probably", etc.
- Learning to Say "No"... people tend to overstretch and overcommit ourselves. Offer alternatives. You can just say, "No, thank you." Don't be a pleaser.
- Increase Social IQ... Increase awareness of and knowledge about situation and people. Do research. Increase awareness of social rules.
- Have High Personal Standard... Where is the line? Where is the moral standard? What do you value? Is that acceptable or not? What are your core values? No matter how you look or how people think of you...
- Be Polite to Yourself... Challenge yourself. Acknowledge yourself and what you are doing. You are allowed to be human.
If people don't respect you, they don't listen to you. The most effective nonverbal communication is a SMILE.

I made tortilla wraps which I'm hooked on and brought them to my mom and dad's for lunch. I helped with their gardening... weeding, planting, watering, etc. |
