Active Listening
Active listening is a skill that helps foster real communication between people. This is more than just listening to words and what you think you are hearing, it is listening for the intended message of what is being said. What makes it active is the checking for feedback of whether the intended message was actually received.
Two Step Process
- Listen for the intended message in their words.
- Get feedback that their intended message reached you.
When active listening you will experience 4 things:
- Feedback about your understanding of their message.
- people will want to talk to you.
- You will watch others solve their own problems.
- A shifting of feelings.
