Charlotte Brontė

It was Jane Eyre that I heard from this writer. First I heard it abridged than unabridged. The most prolific of all the three Brontė sisters and the one that lived the longest. She's probably the most thought of when it comes to the works of the Brontės. And of her works Eyre is the most famous.

Now because of the various versions I heard, it's hard to remember specifics. I remember the full version of the audio book better than any edited version. Probably because it was the only uneditted version I heard. The other(s) were edited. And like the Jane Austen stories the full version is better than the cut version. Because it gives more of the world these characters are living in. Better continuity. Which results in a better take on the story.

For me Eyre isn't one of those stories I care to hear again and again. Although I do believe that if one hears, sees and reads too many versions of the same story any story, it can effect one's ability to enjoy another version of it. For instance I remember watching a 1990s film version of Jane Eyre and not liking it. The reason I believe was because I had already heard the unabridged version plus other versions whether they be abidged or adaptations of the novel and it undermined my ability to enjoy something that had I seen it before when I wasn't that aware of the story I might have enjoyed it. So sometimes it's better to not read the book before seeing or listening to the adaptation because expectations can be undermined and potenial enjoyment ruined.
