I drew this piece years ago and I call it How Can This Be. I can just "see" the old prophet, steeped in the teachings of the Old Testament but knowing, in some strange way, that there is "something" about this Jesus. The old man goes to see Jesus secretly. Jesus tells him that he "must be born again". Nicodemus is confused, seeing only in the natural sense of the world and so he ponders Jesus' words and he ponders the Scriptures and he wonders "how can this be?" How can I return again to my mother's womb and be born again. He searches for Truth and so eventually he finds it in this carpenter from Nazareth. Christ offers each and every one of us a new chance at life, a clean slate, an opportunity to begin again, a way to wipe away the mistakes of the past and be "born again" in a spiritual sense and have a brand new life. Is that not truly a miraculous promise? And..... not only can we have a fresh, clean beginning, He promises to come along and help us to live in a new way - He promises to change us "from glory to glory". That means to change us from the inside out one step at a time, one day at a time. He's done it in my life over and over and, every day He continues His work in me. He never gets discouraged with me and he never gives up on me. Do you want a new beginning? Do you want Someone to help you start over? Jesus is there, waiting for you. He was there waiting for me. Just tell Him you want to start over. Tell Him you've messed it up and can't do it alone. Tell Him you believe He is God's Son and tell Him, in your own words, with your own voice that you want the the gift He paid such a price to give you. You don't have to understand everything right now, I STILL don't understand everything but this much I know. He is the ONLY One who can do this. He IS the Son of God! Oh, Nicodemus, I KNOW you eventually understood.
