I have painted this old woman twice now because I find her beautiful. Her expression and bearing speak of great dignity and serenity. She makes me wonder what her eyes have seen - great joy, great tragedy, sorrow and blessing. There is an aspect about her that makes me feel she is respected and possibly even revered among her people. She has almost completed her journey. I painted the young woman for the same reason. Quite simply, I find her beautiful. She says to me that, even though her years are few, she has seen and experienced much. Her carriage speaks of humility and acceptance. There is an ethereal, somewhat "other worldly" quality about her. She has barely begun her journey and I wonder what will "Life" bring to her door. Together they speak of sunrise and sunset, the beginning and the end, the everlasting circle of the Journey of Life.
